My children — and probably yours — can’t afford to buy a home in Sonoma County. The single biggest obstacle is the down payment and the first years of mortgage payments. I’ll push the city to establish a down payment and mortgage assistance program for first-time buyers, so saving for a home in Santa Rosa is realistic again.

Santa Rosa is also full of existing real estate that sits empty and uninhabitable due to disrepair. I’ll work to put real incentives behind restoring these properties and bringing them back into the housing market. That adds homes to our city without waiting on new construction, and it stimulates the local economy at the same time.
